Jarrod Saul McKenna Prophetic Indigenous Theology

G'day MS crews, thought you might be interested with this: http://blog.sojo.net/2009/05/29/god-is-not-and-has-never-been-white-biblical-post-colonial-theology/ I’ve written this article for "God's Politics" blog to share the amazing (and sadly often unknown!) contributions of Australian Aboriginal theologies. It has had a profound effect of me and the Peace Tree Community. Please… Continue

John Leech Lenten Journey

"I love this!" said someone who worked on adapting A Lenten Journey by Christine Sine for our ecumenical Lenten series in Edmonds WA - between Edmonds Lutheran Church, Bethel Lutheran Church (Shoreline) and Saint Alban's Episcopal Church (Edmonds).... it provided a good framework for us; something new. Howard Anderson (Cathedral College of Preachers) told a story about coming into a new congregation as pastor and trying out new things - someone would say, 'but we've never done it that way befor… Continue

Daniel Medina Hope

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” It is common for Christians to wish one another “good luck” when events, challenges or important circumstances are faced. Now, some readers may remark, “Well, but that’s not what I mContinue

J Fowler The Rustless Axe of Wendell Berry

I love Wendell Berry's writings. His work has helped reshape my worldview, so distorted by the strong current of accepted cultural norms. Wendell Berry is a philosopher-farmer-writer-poet-environmentalist-Christian who isn't afraid to spit in the face of deeply entrenched systems of corruption. He speaks of such deep corruption though, that often his poetic prophet's finger is pointing at us all; and nobody likes to hear that old call to "… Continue

Andrew McLeod confession

In case anyone is wondering, I got a great opportunity to make that confession that was thwarted in Italy. It was on a high cliff over my favorite river after hanging out with the feral chickens of Fair Oaks, and before a massage. God is great! Continue

David Hodges The Bible Still Happens...

So a bunch of us misfit ragamuffins were sitting around talking oneday and we decided that when the Bible says that if you have two shirts give one to the poor, what it really means is that if you have two shirts give one to the poor. We also decided that Jesus really meant it when H… Continue

Andrew McLeod Going Deeper

I went back to Cattedrale del Duomo and found out it was way deeper than I had imagined on Sunday. It was mostly empty and so I was able to walk around more and look at some of the really incredible artwork, which was often layered. For example, a large carved piece was partially covering a faded fresco. There were also signs of numerous repair jobs. The massive canopy over the altar, with spiral columns that were more than a foot thick and several stories high, was nearly 300 years old, judging… Continue

Andrew McLeod Adventures with God in Italy

Greetings and blessings from Italy. I’m mostly recording my experiences on my other blog, but I have a couple of adventures that feel like they are better meant for this audience. On my second morning in Trentino I was once again up early (my jet lag mitigation plan apparently hadn’t fully worked). I was also fighting off one of the various colds that have been brought here from all over the world, but even so I got restless and decided to get up and walk around at dawn before my conference got… Continue

Andrew McLeod Some lovegarden specifics

A while ago, too long ago, I posted here about one of my many hare-brained schemes, which in this case was that faith communities should be finding underused land (including perhaps churchyard lawns) and putting it into food production. The idea is becoming more relevant and urgent by the day. As the wheels come off the global economy, we're going to need to grow more of our own food. We can't tell how bad it's going to get, but I think that it's pretty safe to assume that it will get bad. I thi… Continue

Eliacin Rosario-Cruz (Community Host) What's going on at MSA- August Update

Here again is the annual update of MSA—what’s happened in the last year and where we hope to go. 2007-2008 has been characterized by the word “re-imagine.” We have started reimagining our organization as a network of communities, our staff as a team, and our focus as conveying the kingdom of God as a multicultural, international community of believers.

In the

Andrew McLeod New blog!

Hi folks. I just started a blog at www.holycooperation.blogspot.com. I thought about doing it here, but it's going to be a more general thing. I'll keep this blog for my somewhat more spiritual musings. And on that note. Things have been really amazing. God just keeps on confirming that I'm in over my head. It's been a great opportunity to humble myself and realize that I'm called to do more than I can do by myself. In the words of the immortal Elwood Blues, "We're on a mission from Gahd." Continue

Eliacin Rosario-Cruz (Community Host) Mustard Seed House with an opening for a couple interested in Christian Intentional Community in Seattle

Peter and Anneke Geel will be leaving the Mustard Seed House in August. Peter has been accepted into the doctoral program at Georgetown University and for some reason they aren’t very keen on commuting to Washington DC each week. We are looking for a couple who are interested in joining our small community here in Seattle and moving into our 1 bedroom basement apartment. We are looking for people who can make at least a two year commitment. The… Continue

Andrew McLeod Nahum 1:3

I recently realized that my blog posts wind up on the main page of this site, and had an attack of shyness that my posts are most of what's going on in this little patch of blogosphere. I suppose that the other solution is for other folks to also blog here, but I don't have any control over that. My time in eastern Oregon was amazing, and for anyone who hasn't been there, it has very little to do with Portland or what most people think of as the Northwest. It is more like Nevada. Look all you w… Continue

Andrew McLeod Heaven and Hell's Canyon

I'm on a weeklong road trip in the desert, and true to form, I'm running into God left and right. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised, since God is everywhere. The trip started with three days in Boise at a rancher co-op meeting. It was an amazing and wonderful cultural experience, and if I don't eat any more beef for a while, that will be OK. I hope none of them find this blog. But just in case, I want to say that Country Natural Beef is totally doing God's work when it comes to cattle. The… Continue

Andrew McLeod Saint Francis and the Red Paintings

OK, let's see how long I can go before I get into a serious entry about God's cooperative nature, or the essence of mustard seeds, or any such blahtyblahblah. Luckily, tonight I am distracted by a very surreal pairing of events. I'm still trying to make sense of it, so let's see how I do... A neighbor down the street invited my parents to her last orchestra performance at our neighborhood Catholic school's spring concert. For the heck of it, I decided to join them. We walked down the street to… Continue

Andrew McLeod Lovegardens

Hello everyone. I've been meaning to start a blog, and tonight's the night. It will probably mostly be a broken record about my favorite subject of cooperation (writing books and creating websites on the subject), but first I would like to start with a little something different. Lately, I've been feeling called back to my birthplace of Nineveh...err...Sacramento, where it seems that there is work to be done around food. A few days ago I arrived in town to find the lead story in the local paper… Continue

Jarrod Saul McKenna Fruits of Kiwi kingdom conspiracies!

the mutards seeds spread!!! Today Peace Tree's Kiwi mates Manu and Sam have been causing some Christ-like trouble for the systems that are yet to submit to the reality of a nonviolent world that is ours in the resurrection. Here's the press and some photos. Keep them in ya prayers:
